When a woman shared a TikTok video of her front door makeover, she likely wasn’t prepared for the heated reactions it would spark online. In the post, she confessed several regrets about her decision, including letting her fiancé choose the new door and opting for frosted glass.
Little did she know, her choice would ignite a firestorm of opinions.
One of her first regrets?
Getting rid of the original door. “I absolutely loved our front door when we bought this house,” she admitted, explaining that it had to be replaced due to how much cold air it let in. Unfortunately, many commenters found her new door design to be a major downgrade.
The TikToker acknowledged giving her partner full control over the new door selection.
A decision she now regrets. “Looking back, we should of just taken more time,” she shared. The frosted glass, in particular, darkened her hallway, leading her to wish for a different design choice.
Once the video went live, the flood of critical comments became overwhelming.
People were quick to express their distaste, with some stating that the new door lacked character compared to the original. The negativity was so intense that she eventually had to disable comments altogether.
Still, the woman kept her sense of humor, posting follow-up videos.
“Who knew a picture of a front door would cause so many strangers on the internet to tell me how horrible my door is, I was not expecting that on a Monday night,” she wrote, even joking that she’d accept a free replacement if offered by a door company.
The criticism didn’t stop there.
One user audibly gasped upon seeing the door and asked, “May I ask the reason why you got rid of it if you loved it?” In response, she explained that the original door had significant wear and tear, including rotting wood and cracked windows, making it unsafe to keep.
Some of the more considerate comments expressed sympathy.
“Making decisions when renovating can be so hard. Don’t mind them, it’s just a door! Live your life,” one person said. Others acknowledged that while the original was beautiful, practical concerns like safety and insulation were important too.
In another post, the TikToker addressed accusations of “criminal actions” for removing the stained glass.
“Everyone on my Tik Tok talking about my ‘criminal’ actions of getting rid of the stained glass door and character from my house, whilst i’m just standing looking at stained glass and character still in my house,” she remarked, clearly bemused by the intense reactions.
Supporters rallied behind her, with one writing,
“You do you! It’s your house!” Others criticized the overreaction, suggesting that if people were so invested in old doors, they should “buy an old house and pay the heating bills too.”
Despite the backlash, the woman remains unbothered.
As she pointed out in her final follow-up, “I’ve never known so many people to be triggered by something that doesn’t affect them.” It seems that, in the end, the internet’s fury over a front door says more about the commenters than the door itself.
