It’s true, there are so many fitness fads and specialized diets out there, that finding the right foods to eat can get confusing and overwhelming.
Luckily, even if we’re still deciding on what to eat, one heart surgeon has advice on four foods we for sure should not eat and always avoid. These foods can be detrimental to our bodies and have some pretty gnarly long-lasting effects.
Dr. Jeremy London is a heart surgeon that makes content on TikTok
Dr. Jeremy London, AKA @drjeremylondon, is a heart surgeon that uses his platform on TikTok to educate people on how to stay healthy while sharing some of stories from his job.
He wants people to know that health is a lifestyle

Whether that’s to stop smoking because of the health risks or to get a routine heart check-up, his TikTok offers candid conversations about health.
He shared the four foods that he believes people should completely avoid, and a few may shock you.
1. Fast Food

He refers to fast food as an “edible food product” because, yes, you can eat it, but it has little to no nutritional value and is often filled with calories, chemicals, synthetic ingredients, and all kinds of other (absolutely delicious yet harmful) additives.
2. Soda

We have bad news for the diet soda peeps: you’re in this, too. He says both regular and diet sodas are no-gos.
3. Dairy Products

Well, okay, according to Dr. London, all is not lost. However, dairy products contain a higher amount of saturated fat than most Americans consume every day, possibly multiple times a day. This could lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s. So, it may be time to give almond milk a try.
4. Alcohol

It looks like Dr. London is not ready to go out for bottomless mimosas because he says that alcohol is “absolutely toxic to every cell in our bodies.” Yikes, it may be time to move to making mocktails because, according to the National Cancer Institute, “there is a strong scientific consensus that alcohol drinking can cause several types of cancer.”
His warnings may be reminders for mindful eating

This could also be a reminder to look into what could benefit us and even serve as alternatives to what may not be serving us well.
He also believes that muscle can be some of the medicine
While he’s not saying that strong muscles can cancel out the four bad foods he mentioned, he does have a video about how building muscle can be the key to a longer life.
Health concerns like obesity and diabetes that have a link to eating fast foods and soda drinking can be improved with exercise and building muscle mass.
Some of us may need to ease into a new way of eating

According to the University of Utah’s health library, changing our diets all at once to be healthier can cause “extreme cravings, headaches, fatigue, low energy, brain fog, gas, and bloating.” Instead, it may be better to gradually cut out thing like alcohol and limit how many dairy products are consumed in a day.
