Yep, you read that title right. Grated. Egg. An egg that has been grated. A hard-boiled, grated egg. Like cheese, but an egg.
Honestly, we’re getting to a point in this journey on the internet where I’m wondering who comes up with these wacky food trends and if it’s just one big joke to them.
Honesty, I wouldn’t be surprised at this point!
We’ve seen a lot of interesting food trends over the past few years.
While some of them have been totally delicious (baked feta, anyone?) others have been just downright disrespectful to food; I’m looking at you, air fryer pasta chips.
And look, I want to make it clear that I’m not a hater — I love funky foods, I just also love common sense.
However, the latest TikTok food trend has really sent me spiraling, for lack of a better word.
Food content creators have been grating hard-boiled eggs onto avocado toast and calling it a revelation. I’m calling it nausea on a plate, but this article isn’t about me !
Maybe I can’t stomach it because it looks like dandruff flakes… I’M SORRY!
The video, originally posted by @healthyishfoods on TikTok has amassed over 3 million views.
Now, food content creators across the platform are giving the grated toast a try.
In the original video, @healthyishfoods recipe calls for one slice of toast, a dollop of Kewpie mayo, one grated hard-boiled egg, salt and pepper, and a little bit of siracha.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of all the aforementioned ingredients.
I just have a huge issue with how it’s being prepared, that’s all. Plus, I can’t imagine what a huge pain in the butt it is to clean that egg out of the grater!
Whatever happened to slicing up our hard-boiled eggs? Or better, poaching or frying them to fit perfectly on our avocado toast!
Maybe I’m just being cynical. Maybe it is truly a delicious way to create a better egg to toast ratio.
However, every time I’m faced with my cheese grater and a hard-boiled egg, I can’t bring myself to do it.
Guess I’ll just have to wait for the next TikTok food trend to try!
