If there’s one thing the internet is always talking about it’s Ariana Grande’s voice. The singer, who recently starred in the blockbuster movie musical Wicked, has been getting questions about her singing and talking voice since practically forever.
Indeed, if you’ve been following her for a while, you’ll notice the singer’s voice has changed over the years, and she’s finally explained why.
Her tone has changed
Since her days as Cat in the Nickelodeon show Victorious and up until becoming an Oscar-nominated actress, the multi-talented star has been getting questions about her tone.
And if you haven’t noticed the changes yourself, you will have at least seen a comment or two about it online.
Grande has seen the questions
The singer and actress has also seen the comments about her change in tone, telling the hosts of SmartLess podcast that the number of comments has been hilariously high.
She said, “It’s so funny because I’ve talked about it a zillion times, and people are still like, ‘Where’s your real voice?’”
She explained why that happens
Grande explained that she has to place her voice “a little higher” when she’s got a long day of talking and singing ahead, like a press day or a concert.
She also explained that this is common practice for people who regularly use their vocals.
She does it to preserve her voice
Grande explained that it was “the thing that I do that perplexes people so much — and it’s just so funny because if you’re a person who uses their voice, you know about this.”
“I’ll change my vocal placement to kind of preserve,” she added.
It’s healthier for her vocals
The singer shared that placing her voice higher when she’s got a long day preserves it, explaining that it’s a healthy practice.
“[It’s] just something that’s healthy for the voice. It’s just basically pitching your voice up a tiny bit. It’s just a normal thing for vocalists,” she said.
People often think she’s faking it
This discourse has most likely resurfaced as Grande has been doing a press tour with co-star and friend Cynthia Erivo for the movie musical Wicked – which we’re getting a part 2 of later this year by the way… super excited!
The singer explained that people often think she’s putting on a fake tone, for one reason or another. But she responded to this by pointing out that her voice is the same, it’s just differently placed.
Grande responded to the comments
The Oscar-nominated star responded to the comments about her tone of voice by saying, “But people are like, ‘That’s not her natural voice.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, it is actually, but it’s just a little higher. All of it is natural.’”
Have you ever noticed it?
Ariana is known for hitting incredibly high notes in her songs, ones that you could have even thought were electronic instead of natural, like the notes she hits in her song imagine which are simply phenomenal.
But it’s clear the singer is just that good, with an impressive control on her vocal cords and great talent to preserve. Have you ever noticed the change in Ariana’s voice during interviews or in songs?
