Haribo lovers are in for a shock after discovering that the classic sweet shape they’ve always believed to be a key is, in fact, something else entirely.
One Reddit user sparked the debate after confessing, “After five years of marriage, we just discovered that my wife and I refer to this particular Haribo sweet as something different.”
The discussion quickly divided opinions.
Some users swore it was a key, while others insisted it was a baby dummy. One person confidently shared, “I used to call them keys before I found out they were dummies.” And one wildcard even suggested it could be a looking glass!
Debate aside, there’s no room for interpretation anymore.
Haribo confirmed that the mystery candy is, indeed, a dummy. One Redditor chimed in with authority, “Dummies, it says so on their packaging,” effectively settling the matter for most participants in the thread.
For some, this revelation was hard to swallow.
A user admitted, “It was a key to me, but I know they’re apparently dummies. But they’re clearly not dummies.” Long-time fans may never fully shake their belief that they’ve been snacking on sugary keys for years.
And they come in tubes too!
The fans who do embrace the truth can find plenty of these “dummy” candies in Haribo’s Tangfastic tubs or packets, which are made just for sour candy lovers. It turns out, whatever you call them, they’re one of the fan favorites!
This isn’t the first time Haribo has confused candy lovers.
Not too long ago, Twitter erupted when someone pointed out that the green Haribo gummy bear is actually strawberry-flavored — not the lime or apple many people assumed it to be.
The internet quickly came alive with reactions.
One fan confessed, “I always eat the red and greens together…makes sense now.” Meanwhile, another exclaimed, “The green gummy bear is strawberry? How did I not know this?”
Some fans from abroad shared their own experiences.
“In Germany green is green apple and we have another red one for strawberry,” one user noted. It seems that depending on where you live, your Haribo flavors can change — who knew?
Still, others remained unfazed by the flavor debate.
“I typically stuff a bunch of them in my face… I didn’t know they were different flavors,” one person shared, proving that for some, the taste doesn’t matter as long as they’re delicious.
And they just might keep us guessing.
So, whether you’re Team Key or Team Dummy, or whether a green gummy bear has fooled you, one thing’s for sure — Haribo sweets keep us guessing. What other candy revelations are out there? Let us know your favorite Haribo trivia in the comments!
